Ace Combat 8 Drop Tanks Guide
In Ace Combat 8, drop tanks are aircraft parts you can equip on most jets. They do not change handling or fuel gameplay (AC8 is still arcade — fuel does not run out). You jettison them for the action-hero beat; after release they become unguided projectiles.

How drop tanks work
- Equip via the pre-sortie parts / loadout screen (same place as BODY / ARMS / MISC upgrades).
- No handling penalty — Project Aces has said they exist for the Maverick-style drop into a dogfight, not sim fuel rules.
- Jettison with the same control used to switch/drop special gear (community: hold the Switch Weapon bind — confirm in your Controls menu; HOTAS layouts differ). See HOTAS if binds feel wrong.
- After release the tank flies as an unguided projectile. Treat any splash damage as a bonus, not a strategy — still kill TGTs with missiles/guns.
When to use them
- Style / immersion before a merge or boss phase.
- Photo / clip moments in Free Mission.
- Not a substitute for MRP farming or S-rank score — they don’t replace SP weapons or parts that actually move stats. Spend Tree currency on weapons first: MRP guide · Aircraft Tree.
