Where Ace Combat 8 fits in Strangereal
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve continues the fictional Earth of Strangereal, set about a decade after Ace Combat 7’s Lighthouse War. The new conflict is the Sotoa–Usea / Sotoa–FCU war of 2029.
The invasion (setup only)
Sotoa overruns much of the FCU with a lightning campaign that includes orbital kinetic weapons referred to as Tonitrus Spears in lore coverage. The FCU navy is shattered; civilians and remnants crowd aging ships like the Endurance.
Your role — without late-game spoilers

- When the original Wings of Theve — Jan Cope — is killed, command asks you to carry the name and callsign REX.
- You lead Joker Flight through campaign sorties and Endurance downtime scenes.

Tone of the campaign
Official marketing emphasizes rising from “nobody” to national symbol, first-person character moments between missions, and bonds with your wingmen — arcade spectacle with a propaganda-versus-truth undercurrent.
